It’s time for another Top 5 Wednesday! T5W is a weekly meme created by Lainey @ ginger reads lainey and hosted by Sam @ thoughts on tomes. Each week we give our Top 5 answers for the category given. For more info on the meme, or a list of weekly topics, check out the T5W Goodreads group!

This week’s Top 5 Topic is :: Gateway Books To Your Favorite Genre!!

What books do you think are good to introduce people to your favorite genre? If you have more than one favorite genre, feel free to split it up to cover both!

Today, I’m feeling a bit flip-flopped. So I’m going to choose two of my favorite genres: YA Fantasy and Mystery.

I know what you’re probably thinking… “How many times is she going to mention Harry Potter and The Darkest Minds?” But I just can’t help myself! All three of these books are really amazing Young Adult Fantasy novels that I would recommend to anyone who’s looking for an introduction to the genre.

Both of these books are great mysteries with unsuspecting twists and turns. They would be the perfect gateway books to the Mystery genre!

What would your Top 5 Gateway Books to Your Favorite Genre be? Feel free to link your T5W post below so I can check it out!

  1. You can never mention HP too much!! lol
I haven’t read the other two series. I might have to check them out.

I also haven’t read the thrillers lol… But Pretty Girls has been on my wishlist for awhile now. I should probably get around to reading it.

  3. I love Daughter of Smoke and Bone! I can’t wait to read Taylor’s new series!

Somehow I got confused and read the sequel to Darkest Minds first so…I just never actually read the beginning of the series. Oops? For some reason, I wasn’t too confused by having missed the whole first book, though.

  4. I definitely need to pick up The Darkest Minds :3. Karin Slaughter just creeps me out for some reason XD but I’ve only read 3/4 of one of her books and apparently it’s one of the darker ones. Lovely choices here!
