Hype or Like Friday is a group that selects and reads a book each month that is considered a “hyped” book. Each Friday during the month, you post your answers to the discussion questions for that week, and on the last Friday of the month, you will post your review on the “hyped” book. But! Instead of rating the book, you will either “hype it” or “like it”! Sounds fun, right? Ok, so let’s get started…
October’s theme is I Ain’t Scared of the Dark! and the Hyped book this month is Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Isn’t that just a perfect read for a spooky month? I’m super excited because this is a book I’ve wanted to read for a while now, and have just never gotten around to it. (Like lots of books.)
Today is a freebie, so I’m going to go with Donna @ Chocolate n Waffles idea and pick the topic of Top 5 Scariest Stories!
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson :: If you love classic horror, this is definitely a read for you. Shirley Jackson is one of the masters of horror and this book lives up to the name. It’s a short read, but will have you shaking in your boots the whole time with its creepiness.
Seeing Evil by Jason Parent :: I know you’ve heard me talk about this book a few times, and that’s because it truly is a horrific tale. The characters are as evil as evil can get and it’s just an all over gruesome story. Definitely in my Top 5.
Dracula by Bram Stoker :: Ok, so it’s been a really long time since I’ve read Dracula, but I do know that it’s one of the best horror stories ever in history.
The Children’s Home by Charles Lambert :: I read this book not too long ago and I went into it not really knowing what to expect because I hadn’t heard many people talk about it. There might be a reason for this… But to me, it’s deliciously terrifying and a definite read for horror lovers.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman :: I love Neil Gaiman’s writing and this is one of my favorite novels of his. It’s not as horrific as the other books I mentioned, but it’s eerie and frightening and will always stick in my mind as one of the best scary stories I’ve read lately.
Do you agree with me on any of these stories? What stories would you have included in this Top 5? Let me know in the comments!
