thouAlthough it’s not my preferred genre, every now and then I like to switch things up and read some NA Romance. So when my blogging buddy, Jill from Rant and Rave About Books, told me about her new book, Corrupt Me, of course I wanted to check it out! Jill is one of my best blogging buddies, but this in no way affected my feelings while reading the book. My job as a reviewer is to give my honest opinion, so that’s exactly what I’m here to do!

Honestly, I can’t recall ever reading any mafia romance stories. This was something brand new to me, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The plot ended up being quite interesting, but a bit slow at first. Not slow enough to put down, of course, and the slow pace was definitely required in order to build up the story properly. Once the pace picked up, it became exciting and intriguing, and I was absolutely unable to put it down!

Something that irked me about Luca in the beginning was his disregard and disrespect for women in general, especially Izzie. The following is a quote from Luca himself:

“Knowing Izzie wanted no part of me turned me on…”

For some reason, this statement rubbed me wrong in every way possible. I think it speaks for itself without me having to go into much explanation. But later on, Luca redeemed himself in my eyes with his sweetness, sexiness, and lovingness. Luca ended up proving to me that he loved Izzie… and I ended up loving Luca!

The relationship between Izzie and Luca was a bit strange to me… but I loved it! It wasn’t the ordinary type of relationship you see in most romance novels, and that’s what made me enjoy it so much. The uniqueness and originality of this novel had me hooked.

Overall

At a rating of 3.75 swords, rounded up to 4, this book was a great start to a new series. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book! Corrupt Me has also opened my eyes to mafia romance, so I’ll definitely be reading more of this genre in the future. Check this book out! It’ll be worth your time and you won’t regret it!

*A special thanks to the author, Jillian Quinn, for providing me with an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion.*

  1. I’ve read one mafia-type romance book that a friend persuaded me to read. I didn’t like it and I usually stray away from them now.. I just don’t like it, you know? Anyways, great review!

  2. Thanks so much, Megan! 🙂 I’m glad that Luca changed your mind by the end. I can definitely see some people not liking him by what you pointed out. But I’m glad he grew on you. 🙂 I’m writing the second book now. I’m planning for an April 11th release if I can swing it with my editor. Totally Corrupt is told from Mario and Ashely’s POVs. I love reading all these awesome comments about the book. 🙂 Thanks again, girl!

    1. You’re very welcome! Thanks so much for allowing me the opportunity to read the book and be a part of the tour! That was just Luca’s personality, and I understand that he meant no harm by the comment… Yes! He absolutely DID grow on me! Luca and Izzie are one of my fave book couples now!! That’s so exciting! I’m looking forward to hearing more from Mario and Ashley. Hopefully you’ll let me be one of the first to read again!! I’m glad you liked my review, Jill. I can only imagine how amazing it feels to read all these awesome comments about your debut novel. Congrats again!!!

      1. Of course, I will let you read Totally Corrupt. If you want a copy of Parker, I can send you one when I get the final copies. That’s my next novel. It’s a hockey romance. Thank you! 🙂 It is pretty cool reading reviews and comments.

  3. This is a brilliant review Megan. I’ve been seeing a lot for this book that have said although Corrupt Me isn’t their usual genre it’s a book they really ended up loving so I’m very tempted to add it to my to-read list as well despite it not being my usual genre. Everyone seemed to love Luca from the beginning so it was interesting seeing that it took a while for him to grow on you, but the fact you loved him by the end just goes to show how brilliant a character he turns out to be. 🙂

  4. Ok, I know the whole bad boy/forbidden love/dangerous romance idea is a thing that people get a thrill out of, but, really, she’s heading to law school and falls for a mafia prince? I can sort of get the thrill of danger, but I’d say an outright criminal who could land you in jail is a bit much, ya know?
